2023 SATRN Retreat Final Report

SATRN is pleased to share the final report of this summer's SATRN Retreat. The retreat focused on conceptualizing strategic, evidence-based ways to utilize upcoming national opioid settlement funds (OSF) and evaluate the impact of that work. Three dozen representatives from Arizona community organizations, academic researchers, and government policy makers discussed the state of substance use disorder research, as well as prevention and treatment initiatives. The report offers an overview of the retreat's agenda, and summarizes results of two strategic planning sessions as well as select presentations.

Thank you to all who attended this unique event - an opportunity to collaborate in identifying gaps in science and program implementation, and begin to lay the foundation for an opioid settlement fund evaluation plan! In accordance with our mission, SATRN will continue to create opportunities for collaboration between community and academic affiliates, and we encourage our community to continue these conversations within their own organizations and with funding agencies, policy-makers, and other stakeholders. This report is meant to offer guidance concerning evidence-based investment of funds for research and practice in ways that will maximize impact.
